Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycaemia together with biochemical alterations of glucose and lipid metabolism. Liver is an insulin dependent tissue, which plays a essential role in glucose and lipid homeostasis and is severely affected during diabetes. Liver participates in the uptake, oxidation and metabolic conversion of free fatty acids, synthesis of cholesterol, phospholipids and triglycerides. During diabetes, profound alterations in the concentration and composition of lipids occur[1]. Evolvulus alsinoides L. (E. alsinoides) is an important medicinal plant (family: Convolvulaceae) employed for different ailments in India traditionally and grows in the open and grassy places almost throughout India and other subtropical countries.
